SPACE!!! I have been reading a lot of comics and space related things lately and I have been trying to figure out what to do with my free(how little it is) time. I think I am going to work on a book? a children's book? It might take me awhile, but at least it is something to work towards...

Check this out! If you can't see the face there, well you are dead to me(this is the floor on of the washroom, the one with the jacuzzi...that's right...jacuzzi). It goes far beyond the standard smiley face, I really think it has a deeper, more profound meaning to it...or it is a funny coincident. Who knows, I like it though.

For a summer project I am going to look at doing classic fairy tale characters. I Think I will only do a few, I just want something simple to have some fun with for awhile as I figure out what is going on, because as it stands now, I have no job, no money, no girlfriend, and spent all of sunday and monday playing ocarina of time...damn water temple!!!! every damn time!! it gets me every damn time....

However it is nice to see that my mailers made it out to some people, Death + Taxes magazine is 2 for 2 right now, I got a response from my business card that I just left in a random issues a few weeks back, and thank you Joey for checking out my website and blog!

So yesterday I did the old sent out some mailers thing. It was less than one hundred, 66 to be exact, but it felt good to get them out there and see what happens. Hopefully Cigar Aficionado Magazine gets back to me....but in all seriousness, please get back to me...

I also peppered a few magazines at chapters when I went to get names with business cards and mailers, and I got a response! They didn't want any work, but it was really nice to see that someone found it, that is one more person that knows my name...

At the begining of this week me, bennett, and nimit moved into a pretty exciting new place in Toronto.

I am pretty excited about it. After first and last month rent I will have the smallest amount of money to my name I have ever had. I think it is one of those things you need to experience. That and hearing the most honest "OH MY GODDD!!!"s that I have ever heard in my entire life, over a rather large centipede, it was the funniest thing I have heard in a long, long time.

AND all in the same night, had a fun dinner with the the likes of Shauna Buck, Carlie Russelle, Jenna Russelle, Scott Lemming, I think even Nimit and Bennett were there! And look what came of it.

I came up with this little end credit feeling thing tonight. After listening to it i feel like it has that end of a romantic comedy feel where the guy got the girl and everything worked out in the end, let the credits roll. The middle part and the piano are all one off so there are some iffy points, and I mean come on, my laptop keyboard pecking piano while not really knowing what I am doing, skills are not what they used to be.

I apologize for all the static, haven't quite figured out how I am going to get rid of that.

I feel like if I did paintings that were all about how depressed I feel i would just be a big old Debbie downer all the time, I have felt sort of down lately, maybe it is the start of the last year, but doing fun things like the robot comic, and the sort of cheesy themed "Looking Up" painting, you know it is always better on the other side sort of thing, that sort of get me back there.

Also I made this little guitar clip for my roommate Amanda's film...it didn't make the cut, but i did it pretty quick and I was quite happy with it. sorry it plays instantly i need to figure out how to stop that.

Light and New Friends

So I have decided I thoroughly enjoy long exposure photos with blooming lights, the more colours the better. That is my Indiana Jones light up spoon in action right there, came in my fruit loops. The blue light is from boats slowly coming into dock down on the lake shore.

And for the last photo, I have found a new friend, but for how long....
I was doing my laundry in the morning, putting some stuff into the washer you know, minding my own business. I could hear these tiny squeaks, I first thought it to be the furnace, so I turned off the furnace to check it out, they did not stop. I couldn't really find out where they were coming from though, so I let it go. Fast forward several hours when I change my load and BAM! as I go to reach for some clothe what do I find?! This tiny fellow. He is the size of 2 pennies at most, really young by the looks of it, eyes closed tight and legs barly able to get him going as he fumbles around. He was in the middle of the room. I looked all around the room, not a large room, and saw no where he could have come from, save the ceiling... He resides in a shoe box right now, which I seem to have a lot of, 3 or 4 empty shoe boxes, why? why do I still have these. Possbily to save little animals I believe, as is the case with my tiny bird freind from a few summers back. A story for another day perhaps.

Started throwing down this week. Using several canvas' while painting is kind of exciting. This painting, the top one, started out just the left side but felt like it needed a little more to it. I want to try and do a painting that just keeps expanding in all directions! The second painting I did in like 30 minutes because I didn't want to stop once I started. I plan to fill up that whole wall this summer with paintings. I need to get going!!

I have been told that I don't seem to have a purpose or real direction in what I do, art wise, I don't feel anything...or you know cry... For some reason that never seemed to important to me initially, but now that things seem to be "real" on the cusp of fourth year, as well as seeing peoples growth this year, I think now is a good enough time to try and find it! The Purpose and direction that is. The last few months have been really weird in term of developments, life drawing for me became the class that I started to find that sort of purpose, not really all there yet though. I hope to really throw down this summer, now that there will be a free room that I can set up an easel in. I really hope nine to five all week wont wear me out.

On a more serious note, I have embarked on another quest, faces in places, I hope to one day have a picture on the front page. It has been a life long dream of mine and only now I feel like i am able to get there. I set up a flickr site with pictures, so far not a very strong showing...only one, but i hope to capture some quality photos.

Really happy with how my graphic design turned out, the colours feel really vibrate and fun, that in mind, not till mounting did I realize I had made a mistake, unsure as to how much it will matter...On a completely unrelated note I have found a blog that I keep dear and near to my heart. Here is some stuff I have done recently. The first being a still live I did over the reading week, I really liked the way the garlic came out, might not be extremely defined, but its got that stroke here, stroke there that i seem to go for, which brings me to the Perfectionist painting I did, I think that might have been the point in which I really started to accept the way i do things, instead of getting all worked up over the process and just go for it. And on that note the last one is a quick painting I did one night for whatever reason, also one thing i would like to do is try and use photoshop and illustrator in my stuff more often, so i messed around in photoshop for a bit...it shows amirite?

Ive been concerned about my over all artistic prowess lately with the prospect of co op looming, it's really worrying me D:
So i have been grabbing bits of extra life here and there, painting at home but i have not just drawn in my sketchbook in a really long time, why i have no idea. I did this painting the other night at school i really wanted to paint something metal so i did...

Also here is a backing track that i have been playing over that last few days, this is one of the recordings of it, i did not do the track, just the guitar, some parts i really like and others i just fumbled around maybe trying to get to technical.

So you know, i was just laying there in bed sort of getting up and i can hear the lady with her mega phone, who has been there for 2 days now every morning!, talking about the Special Olympics when all the sudden i hear a large crowd hooting and hollering, so i look out and what do i see?

They might have taken all their clothes of because of the rain...im not to sure, but i certainly wished i had my bike at that moment...

Shortly after capturing such magic my camera died, i was going to take some pictures of some stuff i had been doing but the power has been cut off at the apartment i am staying at so....its a little hard to charge up batteries D:!

Trying to do some homework and i was getting little frustrated with sculpting, so i tried recording something else, seems like friday is the night for recording, maybe i shouldn't stay at home alone doing this or homework on fridays and should perhaps go out and do something D:

Well at least its some progress on one front. I need to try and plan out these things more so they sound better hahah. I should also look into some other sounds, flat guitar is pretty boring, something in the style of Garage band.

Ive also come to realize the call to writing in a blog, for me at least. It lets me do somethings that never come up during the day, talk about thing that people maybe do not really ask you about, or you ask them about, even if nobody reads this(which is a very good possibility), I have put it somewhere and it makes you feel a bit better. Sounds pretty socially inept, i know, but whatever helps you helps you i guess.

I feel like i have been in a bit of a rut lately, be it like drawing/painting or any number of things (outside of school) i cant seem to figure out or muster, its sort of starting to get to me.

BUT!

I just finished a sketch book and that gives me new hope, its a fresh start, hopefully...
heres one drawing i did just at this end of this last book that i liked. The 10th black hardcover book i have finished D:!

And heres a guitar thing i sort of put together after trying to start my essay, its a bit of a mess, but I am moving forward and actually trying to record and make something up, so i like it, i need to come up with an ending and get some cleaner recordings of the parts but oh well!!

Took a little trip to Toronto today to get some gifts and stuffed, ended up finding James Jeans process recess book, bought it of course. It got me thinking about my progress since i started trying to seriously draw/paint. I keep all my sketch books i finish, and i always try to finish them, which can be a bit of a task sometimes, i love looking through all of them to take a look at how far i have come.

I was huge into the Andrew Jones self portrait a day thing for awhile back in 2003 it really helped me stay focused...that is until i just stopped doing it haha. I cant wait to see what I've accomplished by the end of 2007, let alone the end of my 4 years at Sheridan.

I spent some time on Saturday night and Sunday working on my narrative illustrations, the spot and half page, decided to try and get them out of the way or at least fairly toughed in so i can finish them up easily. I went the acrylic route cause i decided it was what im most comfortable with, so i should try and take my skillz to the next level, or at least a level. Spot illustration is on top, half page on the bottom, i want to work the half more, but im fairly happy with the spot so i might just leave it.

Heres are 2 pages from my sketch book, close to the only pages thats i really just drew for the sack of drawing, i seem to just put thumbnail stuff for class in there now, and i kind of don't like it , mind you i haven't been drawing to much at home when i have spare time, damn guitar always gets in the way.....ohhh how can i be mad at you! Going to try and develop the spacemanish one into more of a page like the first one. One of my favourite artist is Wesley Burt, i always look to his stuff to get inspired, i don't want to just blatantly copy his style of throwing random things on the page but i really do like it and want to try and take some of the idea you see in his work and make them into something i can use.

I am trying to make an effort to do more figure drawing, I am going to extra life atleast once extra, on a good week twice. I find its good to just go back to conte and draw the gestures and get more comfortable with the figure, instead of all this mixed media where I can never really get a drawing I where I like everything that is going on in it with the media. Hopefully that will show in my sketches more, all I do is faces, and to be honest its pretty much the same one each time.....gots to get on those figures and poses I hope gestures help me out with that.

And one more thing to end this long winded post, ever had those days that you just cant seem to do anything right, or you cant seem to find anything you want to do, or listen too, its been like that for awhile with me i must say, my music sort of bores more lately maybe its just too heavy. Or you might be doing something and then the littlest thing will frustrate the hell out of you and you just have to stop. Maybe i need to get out more, and just take random walks, hopefully this new life drawing project will be a blessing in disguise.

Current wip of a pastel self portrait its looking sooo much better today then i did yesterday so thats always good. I just have to work on making it look "finished" once again we had 3 weeks to work on them...started last night. Hurray for procrastination!

This one i did in class over 3 weeks, i was really happy with the glass bottle, i thought it would be difficult but in the end it was just chucks of colour and really fun to paint cause its so loose.

Here is a still life i did at home, that we had like 4 weeks to work on....started it the weekend before it was due. I am pretty happy with the way the bowl turned out, painting white was something that i really couldnt do so when it came time to paint this i decided to suck it up and paint a white bowl.
